You read Chianti, and you think of the hills, villages, parish churches and farmhouses where time has stood still since the peak era of beauty and taste, keeping them intact and authentic. This Chianti has a deep ruby colour, with reasonable depth and 'legs' indicating good structure. Perfumes of cherries and fresh red fruit, mingle with spicy, peppery notes. Lively and fresh in the mouth, with soft, rounded tannins. Good intensity, attractive structure and fine, long length.

Classic Côtes-du-Rhône with an evocative nose of dark berried fruit, savoury undergrowth, a hint of oak and nuanced spice. The palate displays supple red berry and sweet cherry flavours balanced by judicious acidity and nicely textured tannins complexed by earthy notes. Beautifully balanced and flavoursome and best drunk with roast beef and dauphinoise potatoes.

Les Jamelles Syrah boasts deep colour and a syrupy consistency. Its wild fruit (raspberry, redcurrant, blackcurrant) and floral (violet) aromas harmonize with flavours of spices, vanilla and cinnamon, along with a touch of mint. This wine is very rich and full on the palate, with a touch of minerality as well as a long, silky finish that is of rare complexity and boasts a lovely lasting hint of liquorice.

Nice, vibrant ruby red colour. Sweetly scented and classically "Martinborough" with a nice balance of red cherry, pretty florals and savoury, earthy notes. A delicious array of ripe and succulent red berry/cherry flavours and layers. Lovely spice and quite a lot of fruit and oak sweetness on the finish, complimented nicely by silky tannins and delicate acidity. Nice, fresh and youthful Pinot Noir expression. Great drinking now and will cellar nicely for 5 plus years. Food match with braised rabbit pappardelle.

Over delivering on quality, the Chapoutier Côtes-du-Rhône Belleruche an intense wine with blackcurrant and raspberry notes complemented by notes of white pepper. The wine is juicy, powerful and fruity on the palate with lovely roasted notes, and silky, delicate tannins. The intense fruit notes and delicate tannins make it an ideal pairing for cuisine featuring, young milk-fed lamb, pasta putanesca or vegetable quiche.

Dreadnought Syrah is very classical in style, lifted red fruits with a dark edge of graphite and pepper along with savoury stem derived characters make for an intense and interesting aroma profile. The palate is very linear but vibrant carrying good weight and concentration but also a lively streak from the stem inclusion that makes the finish seem fresh and lithe.

Man O' War Island Blend is a Bordeaux style wine and is a blend of fruit from both Waiheke Island and its neighbouring Ponui Island. The blend is predominantly Cabernet Franc from their Paradise vineyard on Ponui Island with Malbec, Merlot and Petit Verdot coming from sites nestled in the sheltered valleys of Eastern Waiheke Island. Rich, ripe wine with sweet red berry fruit framed by chocolate and spice. The palate is softly textured with fine ripe tannins making for a decadent expression of a Cabernet Franc dominated blend.

Ironclad shows dark fruits; plums and berries, wildflowers, crushed rock, and iodine, all creating a complex and lifted aroma profile. The palate shows good density which is balanced with coastal freshness and finishes with a core of powerful tannins. A rare dominance of Merlot over Cabernet Franc gives the wine good early accessibility but clearly a wine suited to ageing.

A complex aromatic profile with smokey peaty characters with a herbaceous lift from the stem influence along with notes of blue and boysenberry and a nod towards cured meats. The oak is very lightly toasted providing an edge of a lift from the woody oak aromatics. The palate is fresh with a nice linearity from the acidity and the mix of skin, seed, stem and oak tannins.
